Before planning to visit the Eastern European country, foreign citizens should check the Ukraine visa requirements to discover if they require a travel visa. This will depend on their nationality as well as the purpose of the trip and length of intended stay.

Ukraine entry restrictions state that nationals of over 40 countries worldwide are able to apply for a visa for Ukraine online through a simple electronic application, which allows travel to the country for a number of motives including business or tourism.

However, in order to submit an electronic form, it is first necessary for applicants to ensure they comply with all the necessary requirements for the Ukraine visa online.

Passport and eVisa Requirements for Ukraine

At present, there are around 80 countries whose citizens are eligible to travel to Ukraine without a visa for short stays, most usually 90 days within every 180-day period, including all European Union countries, the United States, and the UAE.

Other visa-free nationalities, such as travelers from Brunei and Serbia, are permitted a visa-exempt stay of up to 30 days, while nationals of Hong Kong may stay without a visa for up to 14 days.

The majority of the visa-free nationalities are simply required to present a valid passport at Ukrainian border control to gain entry, although citizens of Georgia and Turkey are able to cross the border by showing a valid national ID card, if traveling from their home country.

All other foreign nationalities are required to obtain one of the tourist visa types for Ukraine if planning to visit the country for a holiday.

If the traveler holds a passport for an e-Visa eligible nationality, they may apply for a Ukraine tourist visa online, as well as an electronic visa for the following purposes:

  • Business
  • Medical treatment
  • To undertake activities in the field of culture, science, education, or sports.

Additionally, those who need to perform official duties of a foreign correspondent or a representative of foreign media are also eligible for the Ukraine visa online.

Travelers from any country not listed above are not currently eligible for the Ukraine e-visa and must instead apply for a visa from the nearest Ukrainian embassy or consulate. regardless of the length or purpose of their intended stay.

What documents are required for a Ukraine visa online?

In order to submit a Ukraine visa application online, it is first necessary to meet the e-Visa requirements for supporting documents that will need to be uploaded when completing the electronic form.

The applicant will be required to have the following documentation to submit a Ukraine e-Visa form:

  • Valid passport from e-Visa country
  • An image of the biographical page of the same passport
  • A recent photograph of the applicant, passport-style
  • Proof of sufficient funds to cover the entire stay (bank statement, etc.)
  • A document confirming the purpose of travel (tourism, business, etc.)
  • Proof of health insurance with minimum coverage of 894,419 UAH ($34,159).

It should be noted that, once approved, the e-Visa for Ukraine permits a maximum stay in the country of up to 30 days. Only travelers planning to visit Ukraine for less than 30 days and for one of the valid purposes permitted with the e-Visa are able to submit an application online.

To visit the country for other purposes such as to work or study, or visit for longer than 30 consecutive days, the traveler will be required to apply for one of the embassy visa types from their nearest Ukranian diplomatic mission.

Ukraine Visa Application Information Requirements

In addition to the requirement to supply supporting documents to submit a Ukraine visa application online, travelers will also need to complete a simple online form to apply for the e-Visa.

Filling in the electronic application generally only takes a few minutes. It will be necessary to supply personal information and contact details, including the following:

  • Full name
  • Date of Birth
  • Nationality
  • Country of Residence
  • Current email address

Once approved, the applicant’s Ukraine e-Visa is electronically sent via email, so it is important to provide an email address that the traveler checks regularly.

To complete the form, it is also necessary to provide a few details of the traveler’s proposed itinerary for Ukraine as well as some passport data, including:

  • Number of the document
  • Issuing country
  • Issue/expiry date

Finally, before the application can be submitted, the Ukraine e-Visa fee must be paid through the secure server using a valid credit or debit card authorized for online payments.

It is also important to carefully go through all the data provided on the form before submitting the application, as even small errors in the information can result in a denial of the Ukraine e-Visa or an increase in processing time.

After submission, it may take up to 3 business days for a Ukraine e-Visa to be processed. Upon approval, the visa is sent by email to the applicant, who can then print a copy to present alongside their passport once they arrive in Ukraine.
