While the majority of foreign visitors may choose to travel to Kiev as thier main destination, the 7th largest city in Ukraine, Lviv, is becoming an increasingly popular tourist attraction in its own right.
However, before planning to travel to Lviv, all foreign nationals should first check the Ukraine travel restrictions for their nationality to discover if it is necessary to obtain a visa to visit the city.
Which countries do not need a Ukraine visa for Lviv?
Citizens of 82 countries around the world do not currently need a visa for Ukraine to travel to Lviv.
The majority of these nationalities are granted a stay of up to 90 days for tourism. However, currently Hong Kong passport holders are permitted a maximum stay of 14 days, while citizens of the following counties are allowed a visa-free stay of up to 30 days:
- Bosnia and Herzegovina
Travelers from most of the visa-free countries are permitted entry to Lviv if they present a valid passport at Ukraine’s borders, although citizens of Georgia and Turkey are allowed to use their national ID card to gain entry.
Citizens of Mongolia do not need a Ukraine visa to visit Lviv for tourism if they present a document stating the purpose of the trip at Ukranian border control. Additionally, citizens of Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan are required to present proof of sufficient funds on arrival to be granted visa-exempt entry to the country.
All other foreign citizens are required to obtain one of the tourist visa types for Ukraine in advance of their intended travel dates in order to visit Lviv.
Nationalities eligible for an online tourist visa for Lviv
Citizens of around 55 countries are now able to apply for an online visa for Ukraine to visit Lviv through a simple online application which expedites the overall process of obtaining a travel document.

In addition to granting a tourist stay in Lviv, the Ukraine e-Visa may also be issued for the following purposes.
- Medical treatment
- Activities in the fields of culture, science, education, or sports
- To perform official duties of a foreign correspondent or representative of a foreign media.
An approved Ukraine online visa for Lviv may be granted as either a single entry or double entry visa and permits a total stay of up to 30 days for the purpose selected while completing the electronic application.
Ukraine e-Visa application process for Lviv
The Ukraine e-Visa application eliminates the need for those planning to travel to Lviv to visit an embassy or consulate to submit a paper application in person or wait in long immigration queues at the border to obtain a visa on arrival, greatly speeding up the process.
Before beginning the online process, applicants are advised to make sure they have a valid passport from an eligible country, a current email address, and a valid debit/credit card, as these are all necessary requirements to submit an e-Visa form.
To complete the online form, which will only take a few minutes to fill in, it will be necessary to provide passport information, contact details, and basic travel details, as well as to answer a few questions related to health and security matters.
Applicants also need to use their valid credit/debit card to pay the Ukraine visa processing fee before they can submit the e-Visa form.
All applicants are advised to double-check that all of the information provided on the Ukraine e-Visa form is correct, as even small mistakes may result in a delay in receiving the approved visa, or even the rejection of the application.
A Ukraine visa online application is usually processed within 3 business days, and, once approved, the applicant will receive a PDF document of the e-Visa sent by email.
Traveling to Lviv with an approved e-Visa
Once the traveler has successfully received their approved e-Visa for Ukraine by email, they are required to print a copy of the document to present to Ukrainian border authorities upon arrival in Lviv, alongside the same passport they used to complete the online form.
The majority of international travelers visiting Lviv will likely arrive at Lviv Danylo Halytskyi International Airport (LWO), which is located approximately 6 kilometers southwest of the city centre.
To get from Lviv Airport to the city, arriving passengers are able to take an express bus which only takes around 20 minutes to reach the main railway station, with services running every hour from 10am to 7pm.
Additionally, a number of other city bus routes, as well as taxi services and car rental options, also operate from Lviv airport.
